Clause 504l is very clear: "Every time a vacuum cylinder is opened, the joint ring should invariably be replaced."

Clause 504a(iv) states, "Vacuum reservoir should be tested for vacuum retaining capacity with 510 mm of vacuum throughout the assembly."

In railway maintenance, 'APD' often stands for "As Per Drawing," ensuring the work and clearances match the technical specifications. Clause 503d ends with "APD should be done."

Clause 509a states, "With the piston in fully lifted up position, there must be a minimum clearance of 25mm between the top of the fork end arm and the cylinder stuffing box."

Clause 509a begins, "A vacuum cylinder as fitted shall have a minimum clearance of 13mm between the piston cotter and fork end arm".

Clause 506d(ii) specifies this drop should occur "within 3 seconds."

Clause 506b states, "the filter element should be immersed in light machine oil and the oil allowed to be drained."

Clause 505b(iv) states to create "the balancing vacuum of 356mm... The piston of cylinder in good condition should partly descend but not completely."

Clause 503c(ii) states, "The hose should also be bent around a mandrel of 228 mm diameter".

Clause 503c(ii) specifies that the drop of vacuum should not be more than 75 mm Hg in one hour.

Clause 503b(iv) states, "All the pipe threads must be cleaned and applied with white lead before couplings are fitted."

Clause 503b(ii) lists "bent more than 10mm" as a condition for checking and replacing portions of the train pipe.
